What does BMW P0299 mean?
Code P0299 means the turbocharger is not generating the boost pressure the engine computer expects. The ECU compares the target boost with the measured boost from the sensor. When the pressure is too low for a certain period of time, the ECU stores the P0299 fault code.
Common symptoms
Poor fuel efficiency
Loss of engine power
Slow acceleration
Check engine light
Vehicle entering limp mode
Whistling noise from turbo area
Estimated repair cost
Turbocharger replacement: €800–€2000
Vacuum hose replacement: €10–€50
Boost pressure sensor: €60–€150
Turbo actuator: €150–€400
Intercooler hose repair: €50–€200
Real fixes reported by BMW owners
BMW owners have reported several simple fixes for the P0299 code. One common issue is cracked vacuum hoses going to the turbo actuator. Replacing the hose often restores proper boost pressure.
Example list:
- BMW 520d F10 – cracked vacuum hose to turbo actuator
- BMW 320d E90 – leaking intercooler hose
- BMW X5 35d – faulty boost pressure sensor
